Established in 1992, the Ranger Hall of Fame was created with the sole objective of acknowledging and safeguarding the contributions of America’s most distinguished Rangers. The individuals responsible for the administration of the Hall of Fame are committed to ensuring that only the most exceptional Rangers are inducted, a challenging task considering the high quality of all nominees. The guiding principles of this selection process are impartiality, fairness, and rigorous examination. These principles ensure that inductees are chosen without bias from the entire Ranger community, thereby representing all units and historical periods of Ranger history.

Selection Criteria

The eligibility criteria for the Ranger Hall of Fame are as distinctive as the history of the Rangers themselves. To qualify for induction, an individual must either be deceased or have been separated or retired from active military service for a minimum of three years at the time of nomination. They must have served in a Ranger unit during combat or be a successful graduate of the U.S. Army Ranger School. A Ranger unit is defined as those Army units recognized in Ranger lineage or history. Achievements or service in state or national government positions may also be considered for individuals after they have left the Armed Forces.

There is also provision for honorary induction. This can be bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to Ranger units, the Ranger foundation, or the Ranger community at large, even if they do not meet the standard criteria of combat service with a Ranger unit or graduation from the U.S. Army Ranger School.
